For
most women, time to get ready for any given day is practically the same as the
time guys take before a big football game! That time is considered not only
essential but also sacred. Ladies like
to look and feel their best before tackling the everyday events in their lives.
If you really think about it, girls have to do a lot to be on top of their
game.
In the shower girls
have to:
Ø
shampoo and condition a lot of hair
Ø
They also have a lot more to shave then men do.
Ø
(Men only have to shave their beards.)
Ø
(Girls
have to shave their entire legs and underarms too!)
Out of the shower girls have to:
Ø
Blow-dry their hair which takes about an HOUR
(just
for the record!)
Ø
Fix/do their hair
Ø
Apply
makeup
Ø
Pick out clothes
Ø
Pick out matching accessories
Ø
Experiment with different styles.
Ø
Do fingernails and toenails
Ø
Fix eyebrows
Oh!
Don’t forget that if you get multiple girls together getting ready, then it’ll
be like a whole party within itself.
Then they can check out each other’s choices and give them tips. Plus, it just
gives them another closet full of clothes and accessories to choose from!
Therefore next time guys want to say something about how girls take too long
getting ready just to go out guys should think twice before they even open
their mouths!
However,
psychological studies have proven that men and women perceive the world in
different ways; as if every female on the planet is wearing a pair of pink
contact lenses and every male is wearing blue lenses. Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
uses a similar analogy in his book Love and Respect to make the point;
that a certain event or action can be seen very differently between different
genders. This is one of the reasons guys don’t understand the way women get
ready; whether to go to work, or to a party, or even just taking a shower.
Guys
just don’t seem to understand that this time to get ready is very important and
cannot be rushed! If a girl is rushed, it will probably take even more time
because she will keep remembering things that she still has to do since she
didn’t have enough time. Although, with that being said, it is true that no
amount of time will ever really be enough for a girl to get completely ready.
There are always more things she can critique in any amount of time she is
given. Therefore, it could be arguable that it shouldn’t be that important, or
that there is no time “long enough”, so you might as well just go. But it
really just comes back down to the pink and blue glasses. It’s just one big
difference between boys and girls.

Sara, interesting topic. It is definetly true that girls have a lot more to do than guys when getting ready. I liked your rhetorical device of the pink and blue glasses and how you carried it through your editorial. Your organization with bullet points was also nice.
ReplyDeleteSara, you chose a very common yet overlooked topic. I liked that. You incorporated a lot of logical appeals that guys wouldn't normally think of (which was also nicely organized in bullets). And like Libby, I really enjoyed the pink/blue glasses rhetorical device. It was incredibly creative, and honestly, it really brought the whole piece together and concluded it well. The football game preparation comparison was great also. I had never thought of that!
