I'm Sorry I Couldn't Hear You Over Your Texting

I don’t know about you, but when I first got a cell phone it was for emergencies only. Now, everything seems to be an emergency. People are constantly on their cell phones calling, texting, and searching. With the ever escalating abilities of the phone, people are becoming more and more dependent.

Some people believe that one day robots will take over the world. While that seems like nonsense, it actually isn’t. The world is so over run by all of the technology that is available, so in a sense they already have. An estimation shows that by the end of this year the number of cell phone users will be about 6.5 billion. That is equivalent to over 87% of the population. Now, imagine the time spent on cell phones. On average, two to four hours are spent on the phone per day.

Cell phones are eating up most of the attention of their users. The constant use of cell phones is irritating to me. Imagine talking to someone and realizing that the reason for the smirk on their face is not because of you. It is caused by whomever the person is texting. The whole time that you were talking, they weren’t listening. It’s frustrating. I’m sure twitter is more interesting than me, but all that I ask is that you pay attention to me rather than your phone.

About 1.4 million car accidents a year are cell phone related. Over 200,000 were caused by texting. The use of a cell phone while driving is a very reckless act. Replying to a text that says, “kk,” might seem important at the time, but not when it comes at the cost of someone’s life. You are not only endangering yourself but also everyone else on the road.
I understand that most people are just trying “keep in touch”, I do it myself. However, the rate and amount of time spent on the phone is ridiculous. People keep their cell phone glued to them like it is life support, and without it they will die. The truth is, it is possible to live without a phone; people have done it for centuries. You don’t need to be on it all the time. Don’t let the robots control you; put down your phone.

  1. The point of your post is a very important topic. The texting world is ridiculous i know, so this makes a connection with me. The statement of the robots takes the serious topic and throws a little humor into the post. I like that. You also make a sort of "full-circle" with the robot idea too. Overall I like the facts and the topic is strong because it is serious and it is something that affects us today as hughschoolers. Well done!

  2. I'm one of the 13% Elmo. IDK who you are but good topic. I think it's scientific proof that people have gotten dumber over the ages instead of smarter because we've become lazy and too reliant on our technology.
